How Countertops Are Cut & Fabricated
Getting from a raw slab to a finished countertop takes careful measuring, cutting, and finishing. Here is how the process typically works.
Templating & Measuring
A precise template is created from your cabinets or existing counters to capture exact dimensions, corners, and cutout locations before any cutting begins.
Slab Selection
You choose the specific slab or sheet material, reviewing color, veining, and pattern so the finished piece matches your expectations.
Cutting
Fabricators use bridge saws or CNC machines to cut the slab to the templated shape, using a continuous water flow to control dust and heat during cutting.
Edge Profiling
The visible edges are shaped into a chosen profile, such as eased, bullnose, or beveled, using specialized edge-polishing tools.
Cutouts
Openings for sinks, cooktops, and outlets are cut and smoothed so appliances and fixtures fit cleanly into the finished surface.
Polishing
The surface and edges are polished in stages to reach the finished sheen, from a honed matte look to a high-gloss shine.
Installation
The finished countertop is transported and set in place, leveled, seamed if needed, and sealed to your cabinets or base for a secure, finished fit.
